Chanting: In Your Own Voice

A four week workshop! Tuesdays: 7/30, 8/6, 8/13, and 8/20, from 8:00 to 9:30 EST

There are spots left!

Chanting is an ancient practice in which we use our voice, our breath, and our intention to positively affect our state of being. If you’ve ever felt calmed, comforted, encouraged, or energized by singing a chant – imagine how much more potent the impact can be when you use a chant YOU created yourself! In this four-week series, you’ll learn how to chant using your own words, set to a melody you find for yourself, in a rhythm that feels just right to you – because it’s yours.

We’ll cover the basic foundational concepts: what chanting is, why it feels so good, and how it can help bring about positive change in your life. Then, I’ll lead you through exercises designed to put you in touch with the songs that are waiting to flow through YOU. These are easy, affirming practices that anyone can do, regardless of background or experience. At the end of our time together, you’ll have a whole set of personal chants that you can draw on for support and for celebration, and you’ll have all the tools you need to create more, whenever you want.

We’ll explore some of the myriad ways chant can be used, including…

  • To open the heart and experience a greater sense of connection to the world and the beings around us
  • To celebrate or invoke the sacred in its infinite forms
  • As a method for tuning in to the wisdom and light that lives inside of each of us
  • As a source of emotional nourishment
  • To foster community with other people
  • As a path to greater understanding of our own body, mind, heart, and spirit
  • To inspire and uplift others
  • As a means of creating change or bringing something new into being
  • As a way to honor important occasions and life transitions
  • As powerful medicine for the soul

Is this class for you?

Have you ever noticed that when you sing short, simple, repetitive songs in the company of others, it can change your mood? Maybe you’ve experienced this in a group specifically dedicated to chanting, or maybe you’ve felt it at a political rally, at a concert, in a church, or around a campfire. If you’ve enjoyed that experience of singing together, and you’d like to learn how to create songs specifically designed to enhance your own life, then this class is for you!

You do NOT have to be self-identified as “a singer.” Being able to “sing well” is absolutely NOT a requirement! You do not need any musical or spiritual background at all.

Discover the power of songs made from YOUR words, in your voice, springing from the depth of your own authentic self. See how these songs can change your life. (And you just might find that they can change the world.)

Cost: $100

This class will take place on four Tuesdays: 7/30, 8/6, 8/13, and 8/20, from 8:00 to 9:30 EST

About the instructor:

For over a decade, musician, writer, composer, and educator Angela Gayan Galik (aka Angie) has been immersed in the study and practice of sacred chanting. The quest for deeper understanding has led Angela to explore a wide range of approaches to ecstatic singing, from gospel choirs to pagan song circles, and from bhakti yoga to Dances of Universal Peace. Angie has facilitated many chant groups, both in person and online (through their ongoing Friday Morning Virtual Chant Circle), and is especially interested in the power of singing to help people connect with their hearts as a source of wisdom, healing, and spiritual nourishment.
